Just in time for the busiest webcomic update day of the week (Sunday)! Looks like Milo’s been experimenting (somewhat extensively) with an old friend. (Old-ish. Couple months.) My dear wall-smashing robot, whether employed as a vendor, courier, or intimidator, we will never tire of your primary function: smashing walls.

Next strip is about twice as long as usual, so expect a longer-than-usual delay. In the meantime, why not watch The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut on the YouTube there?

The Thief and the Cobbler is a film renowned for its long and ultimately depressing development history (one that ends with sweeping changes forced upon film’s original cut for the sake of time, money, and marketability—hence the need for a fan’s re-cut), and for its wonderful animation. Just watch Zigzag the Grand Vizier make his entrance. Look at that strut. I am hard-pressed to recall the last time I was so entranced by someone walking. Also, who voices Zigzag? Oh that’s right: Vincent Dang Price. I think you are ready to agree that Zigzag is the best character.

And so, after a bit of an absence, we see how Cassandra is feeling these days: not so great! Easy to see why, I’d say, not that such an observation comforts anybody, so why bring it up, I don’t know it’s just the first thing that came to mind thank you very much and how are we all doing this evening yes I’ll just have the fish please.

I think perhaps that the ruins at Troy as depicted in this comic are entirely too tidy and could use a lot more rubble scattered about. C’est la vie! Or, as the French say: mangez un œuf, mon petit chapeau, tandis que je chante la chanson des tempêtes. Croissant.

A Classicist’s Petition To Marketing

Given that I finish the bulk of these strips over the weekend, habitually, and given that NEWW is coming up next weekend, I am afraid that there will not be a comic next Monday!

In lieu of that, though, I’m sure we’ll have an exciting NEWW retrospective of some sort to soften the blow, if a blow is indeed something that might result from a comic lapse. Who can say? WHO. WHO! (Hooty-hoo!)

Spooky Scary

You’d think that I have some sort of obsessive relationship with the color red. It just keeps showing up to the party lately! The Halloween party, in today’s case. Speaking of, Happy Halloween! Don’t get too … haunted. By ghosts.*

Greg pointed out to me that this is our second holiday strip that concludes with a monster attack. I pointed out to Greg that this is our second strip in as many weeks that features dinosaurs. Greg replied, “Yeah, but you know what? Dinosaurs are awesome.” Iron-clad. I cannot disagree!

Shorter comic coming up this Monday. Fewer calories—same taste! Yum yum.

Milo Wins Video Games

This had to happen sooner or later. Kind of unfortunate that the endeavors of an entire industry are now pointless! For there is only one winner of all video games—for all time*—and his name is Milo Mamalakis.

I saw Yojimbo again over the weekend, and boy howdy, I sure do like that movie a lot. Unfortunately—I should point out that this is indeed extremely unfortunate—the film’s soundtrack is not so easy to find, as far as I can tell. One blog does host three tracks from the film, including the main titles, for the purposes of thoughtful analysis. That’s enough to keep me satiated.

Spoooky Halloween update coming up on Friday. Boo! Aah!!

Party In The Mesozoic

Hopefully, the anatomically incorrect sauropods don’t sully the strip for you! I am saying this mainly to let you know that I am aware of the mistake, so let us never speak of it again. Unless it comes up in conversation. You know, I should start carrying a sign that reads “ARTISTIC LICENSE” and try to use it to win arguments.

Much to my pleasant surprise, Gorillaz has released a new single. You should listen to it if you like Gorillaz and the music that they make. Also, hot damn, this storyboard sequence sure is tantalizing.

Basically, I am here today to tell you that I like Gorillaz.

She was originally going to befriend a cockatoo, before Greg piped up. “John, John John John. This strip is about time travel. Surely we can think of a less contemporary bird.” After that, the choice was obvious.

More dodo shenanigans next Monday! I’m fairly certain some non-strip entity will appear on the site in the meantime.

I’ve been playing the heck out of Metroid Metal‘s Varia Suite and Expansion Pack these past few days, despite having completed only one Metroid title. I know, right? Seriously. You know? (Seriously, dude.) So yes, you should all check those out if you can!
