“…but two thirds of the bucket were empty.”
no criticism intended, but accidentally supplied, but shouldn’t that be:
“…but two thirds of the bucket was empty.”
Spectacular comic, I am in envy of you ability to draw whimsically…
…all my drawings I subconsciously make too lifelike to this (one of my favourite) style of cartoon.

To my ear, I actually think “two thirds were” sounds better here. But I can also see “two thirds was” working. The phrase “two thirds were” is more common on Google, but not by a ton, so I suspect this is one of those cases where there really isn’t a hard-and-fast rule.
